Varun Dhawan is the son of famous film maker David Dhawan who made hit comedy films like Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1, Biwi No. 1, Judwaa, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Saajan Chale Sasural, Deewana Mastana, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, Partner etc. His father is a successful film maker and has earneda lot of respect in the industry. He has worked with big actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Salman Khan, Govinda, Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt.

Varun Dhawan's next movie 'Main Tera Hero' was directed by father David Dhawan. It was a comedy film. The film was an average success but the music was popular. Varun Dhawan had a flair for comedy and his comic timing was impeccable. Some of the critics compared him with Govinda. Compared to his contemporary actors, there is no doubt that Varun Dhawan is the best choice for roles in comedies. He has good expressions, right comic timing and his command over Hindi language is excellent.

His next film 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya' with Alia Bhatt was a turning point in his career. Varun shared great chemistry with Alia Bhatt in the film. He enacted the part of Humpty Sharma well and his comic timing was excellent in the film. His scenes with senior actor Ashutosh Rana were the highlight of the film and we could feel the emotional bond between the two actors. He had improved on doing emotional scenes. The film was a good success at box office.

'Badlapur' changed his image in the industry and he was being taken more seriously as an actor. The film was helmed by Sriram Raghavan. In this film, Varun Dhawan was pitted against powerful actor like Nawazzudin Siddiqui. It was a difficult role but he held his own in the film and earned lot of appreciation. The role had grey shades to it. Varun Dhawan showed his mature side as an actor in him. He wants to strike a balance between commercial and offbeat films.

Varun Dhawan was next seen in Remo D'Souza directed 'ABCD2'. It was a danced based film. The film had many other actors who are top dancers in our country. Varun Dhawan is one of best dancers in film industry with Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor and Tiger Shroff. He danced well but his skills seemed average as compared to professional dancers in the film. Shradda Kapoor was surprise package in the film and her dance moves were good. The film was a big commercial success and entered the 100 crore club in Indian box office.

His next film was the biggest of his career. 'Dilwale', directed by Rohit Shetty, had him featured alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Kriti Sanon. The film was expected to be blockbuster but it failed to live up to the expectations. The film released on same day with Sanjay Leela Bhansali 'Bajirao Mastani'. The critics thrashed 'Dilwale' and the movie was an average success.

Varun Dhawan's films have not seen failure at the box office but none of his films have been blockbusters. He needs to be careful with his choice of films. He has done too many multiple hero films at start of his career. He should concentrate on doing more solo hero films and build his fan base in the country. Despite success at the box office, he is not taken seriously as an actor like Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are. The actor is judged by the kind of filmmakers he is working with. His next film 'Dishoom' is a two hero film by brother Rohit Dhawan. He steals the show under John Abraham in the film with his comic timing. We want to do him big films on his own.
