The Role of Media in Bollywood
- Pankaj Kumar Sinha           Let us know what you think about this article

The media plays the biggest role for celebrity actors to become stars than superstars. Media helps these actors to connect with the people through various mediums. If media is not there, they will just remain an unknown celebrity. We have also seen actors using media to their advantage. During promotions of their films, they are extra sweet to media. If an uncomfortable question is asked, the irritation is visible on the faces of these actors. These big stars cannot accept criticism in a positive way. If you are a star, media has every right to get into your personal space. Your life can’t remain personal. The public wants to know everything about their favorite stars. If anyone is a star, he or she has to make sacrifices on their personal space. You can’t get everything in life. The stars will be scrutinized for each and every thing.

The recent event occurred on bikini clad photograph of Katrina Kaif with Ranbir Kapoor in Spain is no kind of paparazzi. Is you are a public figure, you need to be careful. You have to careful with what you do or say or behave. When media had supported Katrina doing well at Box office and becoming no. 1 heroine than the actress was very happy with the media. She wanted to lap on every success. But the same media has been asking her about Ranbir Kapoor and then she shut them up. Why have these double standards? Why has the media been accepting this? We need to boycott those actors, who are extra sweet only during film promotions and are high handed towards media at others time. The media has made these actors stars and it is not vice versa. They may think they give us news but every Friday changes everything. We have new stars in horizon. Media has to get its respect and due.

Ranbir Kapoor is a big star and a very good actor proven with superlative performances in Rockstar and Barfi but his personal life will dominate his acting performances. His personal life is more interesting than his movies. His link up with every actress in his films makes him more interesting and gives him metro sexual Casanova image. The guys of his age in India would love to be in his place and be in and around beautiful girls. Media will like to promote the Casanova brand of Ranbir Kapoor rather than his acting. It sells more.

The reason why the three Khans (Shahrukh, Salman & Aamir) are ahead of their contemporaries like Akshay, Saif and Ajay Devgan is because they sell more. They are able to generate more news and making more interesting read for people. Why Sunny Leone, Rakhi Sawant and Poonam Pandey are able to generate lot of hype despite not much good work to show? They know how to remain in news and know how to use media to their advantage or media is using them to their advantage.

Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan are two of the best examples of superstardom and using media in their contradictory styles. Shahrukh has been friendly and affable with media. His sense of humor has been reciprocated well by media. His family image of being good husband and father has added a feather to his cap. Shahrukh is a brilliant actor and had so many blockbusters over the years. He has proved himself with variety of roles. The biggest strength has been his sense of humor which has sometimes triggered to him lot of controversies also.

On other hand Salman Khan has been the big bad boy of Bollywood. He has been in the news for more wrong reasons. His relationship with media has not been that friendly. Like Shahrukh, he also has many blockbuster films to his kitty. He has never been rated highly as actor but that doesn’t make a difference to him or his fans. They just come to watch him. His successful television shows like Dus Ka Dum and Bigg Boss changed the thinking of people towards him. He has his own style of sense of humor. Shahrukh Khan accepts the importance of media whereas Salman Khan has been more thankful to his fans. The relationship of media and big stars has been more of choli and daman. But the media make stars so they need to get their respect and due from the Bollywood fraternity.
